 The diverse numeric, algebraic and graphical capabilities of advanced mathematical software for computer algebra, two prototypical systems of traditional physical interest are treated from varied points of view - harmonic oscillators and  atom with one electron, to illustrate the application of techniques of linear algebra, calculus, differential equations and statistical methods for the solution of physical problems.

The spectra of simple, gaseous, diatomic-molecular compounds with photon energy throughout a large range are reviewed.  Symbolic methods to treat these spectra are outlined to provide a quantitative reproduction of experimental data with physically meaningful parameters of minimal number.
