Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (TSU) started the spring semester of the 2016-2017 academic year with a number of important novelties.
A difficult bureaucratic barrier hampering the review of applications submitted by students and other representatives of TSU has been removed from the agenda. In January 2017 the Tbilisi State University introduced electronic recordkeeping system that significantly simplified working with documents.
This novelty promotes accelerated review of student projects. The problem of funding student projects has finally been settled in favor of students. At this point, student applications are being accepted according to the new rule of funding student projects. 45 project proposals have already been accepted and the process of accepting applications is still underway. Upon initiative of the Rector of TSU, a special council has been set up to ensure transparency and parity of student project funding; the council includes the representatives of non-governmental organizations, TSU and other universities. Student projects will be funded on the basis of grant competition.
By order of the TSU Rector, the Student Ombudsman’s Office has been established at the university tasked to reveal and eradicate the facts of violations of student rights and freedoms, to prevent possible conflicts and mediate between students and administration. Coordinator of the Cologne MA program at the TSU Faculty of Law, young researcher Mario Schuetze has been appointed as the Student Ombudsman.
A catering facility was opened at the 10th Maglivi Building of TSU. The facility will mainly serve the students and employees of the Faculties of Economics and Business, and Exact and Natural Sciences. Along with the qualified staff, students and employees will be served by students of tourism vocational program. In future, TSU students will get jobs at the catering facility. A catering facility will also be opened at the 1st Building of TSU in the near future.
