Representatives of European University Association, Georgian Universities Meet at TSU

The representatives of the European University Association (EUA) met with rectors of 20 Georgian universities and heads of Quality Assurance Services to present the results of doctoral education research at European universities, as well as future plans. The challenges and perspectives of European education were discussed at a roundtable discussion held at Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University on January 22.  

Rector of TSU, George Sharvashidze noted that the meeting held on the issue of doctoral education is very interesting and it will promote the development of doctoral programs in Georgia. “The recommendations developed at the meeting will further be discussed in the European Community, where serious attention is paid to the conclusions prepared by the European University Association. It is good that Georgian universities joined the discussion. It is extremely important to establish partner relations with European universities,” Rector Sharvashidze said. 

In her address, Irma Grdzelidze, head of the TSU Quality Assurance Service, focused on ensuring the quality of doctoral programs at TSU and future perspectives.

Prof. Martine Rahier, Vice President of the European University Association, noted that a lot of European universities participated in the competition on hosting this workshop. She hailed the fact that the meeting was being held at Tbilisi State University, adding that doctoral education is very important for future research and generally, youth development.

Representatives of over 120 European Universities will hold seminars and workshops on doctoral education at TSU for two days.

The EUA-CDE Annual Meeting is the largest and most comprehensive event dedicated to European doctoral education. It is an opportunity for all stakeholders in doctoral education from Europe and beyond to meet and exchange ideas and practices as well as stay informed on the latest trends.
