On June 17, Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (TSU) hosted a solemn evening dedicated to the 80th anniversary of Damana Melikishvili, Professor Emeritus at the TSU Faculty of Humanities.
Rector of TSU, George Sharvashidze awarded the University Medal to Professor Emeritus Damana Melikishvili for her long and fruitful scientific and pedagogical activities at TSU. “It is very difficult to talk about the person who has educated generations of young people. She is a prominent scientist, a very good mentor and simultaneously, she is a very energetic and positive person. Such people are the face of our university. I wish her long life and a lot of good deeds for the benefit of TSU and our country,” Rector Sharvashidze said.
Dean of the TSU Faculty of Humanities, Professor Nana Gaprindashvili said that “Damana Melikishvili is a world–renowned linguist, who created a lot of important works and explored the most difficult and important issues related to the Georgian language. We hope that Damana Melikishvili will further enrich our linguistics with a lot of important scientific papers.”
Damana Melikishvili’s students, classmates, TSU professors and guests attended the anniversary evening. “My students who addressed the audience today met me with great love. I am happy that they have entered on the path I paved for them,” Damana Melikishvili said. “My previous students had to study in the very difficult period. But I had very strong students from the Department of Classical Philology and they worked at the Institute of Manuscripts in the sphere of Byzantine-Georgian relations. Later they delivered lectures abroad and today they are famous scientists.”
The anniversary event was organized by the Institute of the Georgian Language at the TSU Faculty of Humanities.
