CEC’s Final Vote Tally on Student Self-Governance Elections

The elections of student self-governance were held at the Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (TSU) on May 16. According to the final vote tally summarized by TSU’s Central Election Commission (CEC), 120 delegates were elected out of 141 candidates.

Demetre Egnatashvili, chairman of TSU’s central election commission, said that “out of 20 000 students over 5 000 participated in the elections that is 25% of all voters. According to the regulations on self-governance elections, the elections are considered valid if at least 10% of voters participate in voting. The elections were held in a calm atmosphere; noteworthy that not a single complaint was submitted to the election commission. Four international observation organizations and several independent observers monitored the election process.”

The CEC chairman also said that a general meeting will be held by the end of this week, where 120 delegates will nominate the President of Self-Governance, elect the central representative body, set up two commissions that will work over new formulations of self-governance statutes and self-governance election regulations.

Student self-governance elections are held at the Tbilisi State University biennially.
