Academic Council Holds Meeting at TSU

A meeting of the Academic Council of Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (TSU) was held on March 21. Representatives of the TSU Student Self-Government met with the members of the Academic Council and handed over the documentary materials involving their accusations against the TSU Rector. In addition, the members of Student Self-Government requested information from the TSU administration about payroll and functions of various employees.

The Academic Council also held a meeting with the initiative group of TSU professors. TSU Professor Diana Dzidziguri said that the initiative group and the Academic Council agreed on cooperation; in addition, short-term and long-term plans were outlined. She also said that it is essential to make amendments to the University Statute, to announce a new competition to fill the TSU chancellor’s position, to hold an internal audit in connection with the TSU administration’s structure.

TSU Professor Ketevan Marshava, member of the Academic Council, noted that the procedures on early termination of the Rector’s powers have already been launched. She also said that the issue of voting to dismiss the Rector will only be solved after a comprehensive conclusion is made.

TSU Rector, Academician Vladimer Papava explained that the procedures on early termination of the Rector’s powers have been launched in frames of which the Rector’s activities will be studied. He also said that the Academic Council’s decision will mainly depend on the conclusion made after studying the issue.
