TSU Hosts Creative Evening of “Pirvelskhivelebi”

On June 11 the Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (TSU) hosted a creative evening of “Pirvelskhivelebi” (people from Pirveli Skhivi - an almanac founded by Academician Niko Ketskhoveli, then Rector of TSU), marking the 65th anniversary of the almanac.

Head of the TSU Library, Zurab Gaiparashvili said that “all generations of Pirveli Skhivi gathered at TSU; we recollected their creative work. The authors read out their own poems; Georgians songs with lyrics created by people from Pirveli Skhivi were heard during the evening.”

“Pirveli Skhivi was a magazine, where one could easily see how Georgia, its literature of the 1950s was thinking and beating,” Tariel Kharkhelauri from Pirveli Skhivi said.

The first creative steps of almost all famous writers of the second half of the 20th century are linked with this almanac. The university’s literature circle first gathered in September 1947.

The literature circle was led by Assistant Professor Beso Zhgenti. Many new members joined the circle and a lot of interesting literary materials accumulated that made it possible to create the almanac; the initiative belongs to then Rector of the Tbilisi State University, Academician Niko Ketskhoveli. This is how the annual literary almanac of young writers from the Tbilisi State University “Pirveli Skhivi” was born; its first edition was issued in 1950 with each subsequent edition being issued on a yearly basis. A total of 30 editions were printed till 2004.

Various generations from Pirveli Skhivi participated in the event, among them Jansugh Charkviani, Tariel Chanturia, Givi Alkhazishvili, Givi Shahnazar, Temur Chalabashvili, Revaz Amashukeli, Besik Kharanauli, Revaz Mishveladze, Tariel Kharkhelauri, Ela Gochiashvili, Lia Sturua, Vakhtang Javakhadze, Giorgi Kekelidze, Gaga Nakhutsrishvili and Tamar Aladashvili, as well as famous singers and bands.
