Book Presentation – Modernism and Georgian Literature

On May 1, Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (TSU) hosted a presentation of the book “Modernism and Georgian Literature” by Associate Professor Tamar Paichadze. TSU students, professors and invited guests attended the event.

The monograph describes a particular period of the history of Georgian literature of the first half of the 20th century – the modernist stage. Dean of the TSU Faculty of Humanities, Nana Gaprindashvili hailed the book as “necessary, important and topical, which integrates research and teaching.”

“The book is really very important for Georgian readers, literary critics and students. Since the early 20th century, modernism has turned into the main line of Georgian literature, which has largely determined Georgian literary processes. The book is a successful result of comprehensive study of modernism,” TSU Professor Kakha Loria said.

“With this book, I presented the results of my multi-year work. The issue is very important for the history of Georgian literature. The 20th century has passed without anyone writing anything about the trends that served as the backbone of the 20th century Georgian literature,” Tamar Paichadze said.

The book is designed for students, literary researchers and generally, all those persons who are interested in the 20th century literary processes.
