Noe Zhordania 150 Album Presentation

On May 25, Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (TSU) and the Noe Zhordania Institute held a presentation of the album Noe Zhordania 150 as part of events marking the 100th anniversary of the First Democratic Republic of Georgia and the 150th birth anniversary of Noe Zhordania.

The album includes photos, documents and letters about the life and work of Noe Zhordania, chairman of the government of the Democratic Republic of Georgia, as well as founder and leader of the Georgian Social-Democratic Party.

Head of TSU Administration, Nunu Ovsyannikova, Noe Zhordania’s son, Redjeb Jordania, his grandchildren, Christine Pagava Boulez, Irene Tsitsishvili and Ekaterine Tsitsishvili, TSU professors and students attended the event.

Irakli Iremadze, head of the TSU Library’s Georgian Democratic Republic Center and author of the album, said that the album depicts Noe Zhordania’s political activities in the pre-Republic and Republic period. “It mainly includes the orders and reports of the period, when Zhordania served as the chairman of the government, as well as very important aspects of his political activities,” Iremadze said.

Noe Zhordania’s son, Redjeb Jordania said that Georgia had been celebrating its Independence Day for years, but nobody had ever mentioned those people, who gained independence. “I am happy to be here to attend the presentation of a very valuable book about my father. No one talked about this issue for a very long time. Ultimately, as a result of the work done by a young researcher, the significance of those people, who created new Georgia in 1918, first and foremost, under the leadership of my father, was recognized. Let me express my gratitude to those young historians and those people, who made it possible to happen,” Redjeb Jordania said.

The Georgian-English-French-German language album was prepared at the Tbilisi State University and printed with the support of the Noe Zhordania Institute.
