Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (TSU) hosted public lectures by TSU Professors Tinatin Margalitadze and Vakhtang Licheli within the framework of the cycle of lectures dedicated to the 100th anniversary of TSU and the Democratic Republic of Georgia.
Prof. Tinatin Margalitadze delivered a lecture “Language and Cultural Ecology.” She stressed the importance of holding the lectures in the environment, where various items of the university founders were on display. “School children are attending the lectures dedicated to various issues of our independence, statehood, identity. I hope that they will like the lectures. I spoke with them about the Georgian language and tried to explain how important it is for our identity,” Tinatin Margalitadze said.
Prof. Vakhtang Licheli delivered a lecture “Archaeology at Tbilisi State University.” “The project helps school children make an informed choice. We spoke about the discoveries on Grakliani Hill. It is a field base, where TSU students are involved in practical works. It is very important for archaeology students,” Vakhtang Licheli said.
The public lectures were followed by discussions. “The lectures were very interesting. I learnt a lot about barbarisms, as well as archaeology. I got interested in archaeological diggings, old culture, tools and items from previous centuries,” Nika Kaishauri, a school pupil, said.
The cycle of lectures will last till May 26 and it involves a century-old history of Georgia’s independence and the importance of TSU in the process of development. Cycle of Lectures Dedicated to 100th Anniversary of TSU and Democratic Republic of Georgia
