25th Anniversary of Diplomatic Relations

On April 27, Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (TSU) hosted the Regional Student Academic Conference on American Studies dedicated to the 25th anniversary of establishing the diplomatic relations between the United States and Georgia. Deputy Rector of TSU, Mikheil Chkhenkeli; Political/Economic Chief at the U.S. Embassy to Georgia, Dwight Nystrom; Head of the TSU Institute of American Studies, Vasil Kacharava; representatives of American Studies Students Scientific Group, professors, students attended the event.

Political/Economic Chief, Dwight Nystrom hailed the event as an example of “strong relations” between Georgia and the United States. He also said that very interesting issues were discussed at the conference.

Mariam Khatiashvili, organizer of the event, said that the conference was dedicated to the 25th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations between Georgia and the United States. “Students from various higher educational institutions presented their conference papers on various topics, among them Georgian-U.S. relations, U.S. history, society, politics, culture and other issues.”  

Students of Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University, Tbilisi State Conservatoire, International Black Sea University, Samtskhe-Javakheti State University, Gori State Teaching University and Davit Agmashenebeli National Defense Academy took part in the conference.  

The conference was organized by American Studies Students Scientific Group, Institute of American Studies and Georgian Association for American Studies. It was part of “America Days 2017” organized by the U.S. Embassy to Georgia.
