TSU Scientists at ‘Georgian Innovation and Invention for Business’ Exhibition

The Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (TSU) presented the inventions and innovations by TSU scientists and researchers at the Tbilisi national exhibition center Expo Georgia. The exhibition ‘Georgian Innovation and Invention for Business’ organized by the Innovation and Technology Agency at the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia was opened on July 10 and during three days it will host the representatives of academic circles and business sector as well as foreign experts.

The TSU scientists and researchers exhibited new inventions, including a low density biochip, which is used in medical diagnostics, diagnostics of genetically modified organisms, prevention of bioterrorism and studying gene expression; new optical concentrator – highly efficient solar battery; innovative technology for obtaining highly effective luminophore, which can detect micro-cracks less than 1 µm; polymeric coating materials for extending the shelf-life of citrus fruits; georadar, which can determine exact location of research objects at a depth of about 10-20 meters; technology and equipment to produce briquettes; new artificial heart-lung machine, etc.

The exhibition presents over 150 innovative projects and inventions for various industries. During the three-day event Georgian scientists, inventors and innovators will be able to share their innovations or inventions with business people and persons interested in innovations and technologies. In addition, trainings and workshops will be held for the participants to discuss modern business models of commercializing innovations, strategic issues of technology transfer, protection of intellectual property, etc. Foreign experts will speak about commercialization of intellectual property and its influence on entrepreneurship and industry. During the first day of the event scientists and inventors presented their own projects to business sector.     

In parallel with the exhibition on innovations and technologies, Expo Georgia also hosts an exhibition-conference on business development. Representatives of the financial sector, business companies, insurance companies, international and donor organizations, as well as foreign businessmen were invited to the conference, during which TSU Rector, Academician Vladimer Papava delivered a report “Georgian Economy: Old Problems and New Challenges.”
