TSU Publishing House at Frankfurt Book Fair

The TSU Publishing House participated in the Frankfurt Book Fair for the second time already, but it exhibited the books published by the university for the first time this year. A separate stand was allocated for the TSU Publishing House in Georgia’s pavilion arranged by the Ministry of Culture and Monument Protection of Georgia, Georgian National Book Center and Georgian Publishers and Booksellers Association.

The TSU Publishing House received an invitation to attend the October 14 Frankfurt Book Fair through an independent registration. The publishing house received an official invitation after attending the last year’s fair with a guest status.

The TSU Publishing House selected the books published in 2014-2015 to exhibit at the Frankfurt Book Fair. In particular, these are the publications related to Georgian and Caucasian languages and culture, which, in our opinion, might be interesting for foreign publishers and readers.

These publications are: Anthology of Georgian Lyrics; La Stele de Kelichine; Lessons of Abkhazian Spoken Language; The Bezhta Language; Ossetian Myths and Rituals; Linguistic Bibliography of Iberian-Caucasian Languages; Ossetian Folklore; Circassian (Adyghe) Culture; Georgian-Russian Dictionary; The Knight in the Panthers Skin; Rolf Schrader.

The representatives of the TSU Publishing House were offering English-language annotations to interested visitors.

Generally, participation in book fairs is extremely important for publishers, because this is the venue, where they can establish relations with foreign publishers. According to the representatives of the TSU Publishing House, since the university is implementing a large scale project on “translation and publication of foreign language textbooks”, the participation of the TSU Publishing House in the Frankfurt Book Fair was really productive. In particular, meetings were held with the heads of those translation rights departments with whom the TSU Publishing House has already concluded relevant agreements. In addition, meetings were held with other publishers to discuss perspectives of future cooperation.

For the first time this year, the TSU Publishing House had a status of a participant of the Frankfurt Book Fair. The publishing house plans to prepare a diverse exposition, catalogue of books and presentations for the next fair.
