10th Anniversary of Joint Master’s Program with University of Cologne Marked at TSU

Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (TSU) hosted an event marking the 10th anniversary of a joint master’s program with the University of Cologne. The diplomas of the University of Cologne were awarded to the MA graduates of 2016.   

Representatives of the German Embassy and Consulate to Georgia, GIZ, DAAD, various agencies and universities, TSU administrative and academic staff, students attended the event.

Dean of the TSU Faculty of Law, Irakli Burduli said: “Over 80 students have completed their studies on the master’s degree program. The German-language international program enables our students to obtain an academic degree from the University of Cologne. Students undergo their studies at TSU during one semester, and then one semester - at Cologne. Lectures are delivered by German professors. All graduates of this program have been employed in the public and private sectors that further increases the interest towards the program.”

“This program is a success model not only for TSU, but for the University of Cologne as well. Not a single country has a future without legal and democratic principles. We are happy to participate in it,” Bernhard Kempen of the University of Cologne said.

“We are happy that TSU opened up such a brilliant opportunity for us to familiarize ourselves with German legal system, values and then use our knowledge for our practical work in Georgia,” Giorgi Khazalia, graduate of the joint master’s program said.

During the event, the University Medals were awarded to Professors of the University of Cologne, Bernhard Kempen and Christian von Coelln.
