Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (TSU) hosted a meeting with industrial partners of Applied Biosciences and Biotechnology programs on December 1. The event aimed at promoting the field of biosciences and biotechnology in Georgia, deepening cooperation between the university and industry and implementing modern, innovative educational programs for training highly qualified field specialists, including in the directions of nutrition, healthcare, environmental protection and agro-biotechnology. The heads of the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia, National Food Agency of the Ministry of Agriculture, National Center for Disease Control and Public Health and partner organizations attend the event.
In his opening remarks Rector of TSU Giorgi Sharvashidze said that “the key message of this event is a direct link between an employer and an employee, as well as how industry can get involved in the process of learning, at the level of developing curricula, how these links can become useful for the youth - be it an internship program or any work-based learning. It is important that a lot of universities, both Georgian and foreign, have already joined the project,” Rector Sharvashidze said.
Under the memorandum signed with industrial enterprises, partner organizations pledge their support to the development of new educational courses and modules in bachelor’s and master’s degree programs in the field of applied biosciences, as well as to strengthening scientific research potential. They also support the development of students’ practical skills, increasing students’ competitiveness and deepening their professional competences and knowledge through facilitating industrial practice on employment market.
