2nd Youth Conference ‘My Environment ’

The 2nd youth conference “My Environment” was held at the Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (TSU) on December 3.

TSU Rector, Academician Vladimer Papava, Minister of Environment and Natural Resources Protection, Elguja Khokrishvili, Deputy Minister of Education and Science, Lia Gigauri and UNDP Resident Representative for Georgia, Niels Scott attended the conference held in frames of UNDP project Sustainable Development and Environmental Responsibility.

“The 2nd youth conference was opened at TSU with the participation of school children. The conference aims at unveiling children’s vision about the environmental problems. I think, the event will be successful, because environmental protection is an important issue and children are extremely interested in this issue,” TSU Rector, Academician Vladimer Papava said.

Minister of Environment Protection, Elguja Khokrishvili said that “the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources Protection supports all initiatives aimed at popularizing environmental education and raising awareness, as well as active involvement in settlement of all environmental problems.”

UNDP Resident Representative for Georgia, Niels Scott, said that environmental protection is one of the most important issues of the 21st century. “Today we have a unique opportunity to meet the youth, who are actively involved in settlement of environmental problems, to work with them and develop those ideas, which will be useful for both Georgian environment and UN,” he said.

In frames of the project Sustainable Development and Environmental Responsibility, environmental education is introduced at schools through their eco-clubs.
Young environmentalists from six target schools of Borjomi, as well as partner schools from Gori and Zugdidi participated in the conference.
The participants presented their research projects on pressing environmental issues. The winners were awarded.
