Public Lecture by Director of IMLI (International Maritime Law Institute) Professor David J. Attard (Malta)

November 17, at 5-6 PM, within the course of “Maritime Security” lead by the
Deputy Director of the Global Maritime
Operational Threat Response Coordination Center (USA), Mr.
Brian
Wilson, the Director of IMLI (International Maritime Law Institute) Professor
David J. Attard (Malta) will address the TSU students regarding the importance
of IMLI’s programmes (LLM and others) to capacity-building in international
maritime law.
IMLI
graduates from Georgia are invited also to share their experience of studying
at IMLI and subsequent participation in deliberations at international fora,
especially at IMO, with potential Georgian candidates to pursue IMLI’s
programmes.
IMLI
trained high level experts in international maritime law, both for public and
private sectors.
It was established in Malta back in 1988 under
an agreement concluded between IMO (Intentional Maritime organization, UN
Agency) and the Government of Malta. Its main purpose is to train officers,
principally for developing countries, in international maritime law, to
contribute to the fulfillment of the IMO objectives promoting safe, secure,
environmentally sound, efficient and sustainable shipping through cooperation.
Professor
David J. Attard, is a Judge of ITLOS (International Tribunal of the Law of the
Sea) since 2011 and currently possesses the position of Vice-Chairman of the
Tribunal.
