TSU Leading in Caucasus Region According to University Ranking by Academic Performance

The Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (TSU) is ranked 985th among the world’s best 10 000 universities, according to University Ranking by Academic Performance (URAP). The university received a relevant certificate from the Organizing Committee. TSU shows more impressive results in separate research areas, according to the same ranking. TSU is ranked 175th in the field of physical science and 387th – in mathematical science.

According to University Ranking by Academic Performance, the Tbilisi State University is ranked as the 1st university in Georgia and the leading educational institution in the Caucasus. According to the same ranking, TSU is among the 5 percent of the world’s best 23 887 universities and among the 10 percent of Europe’s best 4000 universities. Among the universities of the former Soviet Union, TSU is ranked 7th after the Lomonosov Moscow State University; University of Tartu; Saint Petersburg State University; Vilnius University; Novosibirsk State University and National Research Nuclear University MEPhI (Moscow Engineering Physics Institute).  

According to URAP, TSU has significantly improved its academic performance over the past five years. In 2011-2012 TSU was ranked 1600th, in 2012-2013 – 1394th and in 2013-2014 – 1066th.

University Ranking by Academic Performance (URAP) Research Laboratory was established at Informatics Institute of Middle East Technical University in 2009. Main objective of URAP is to develop a ranking system for the world universities based on academic performances which is determined by quality and quantity of scholarly publications. In line with this objective yearly World Ranking of 2000 Higher Education Institutions have been released since 2010. URAP’s 2014-2015 world ranking is based on six indicators: article, citation, total document, article impact total, citation impact total and international collaboration.
