Bolnisi is one of the most significant agricultural regions in Georgia. It supplies most of the country with vegetables, thus its ecological condition is of great important for the entire Georgian population. TSU researchers, working with German colleagues, studied the situation and have raised serious concerns about environmental contamination in the Bolnisi region.

In Georgia’s southwestern region of Samtskhe-Javakheti, there is a high percentage of ethnic minorities.  Issues such as the forcible deportation of Meskhetians remain a ‘dark example’ in the history of Soviet Georgia. The country still carries an important moral responsibility to make reparation to these people for the way they were treated by the Soviet Government of Georgia.  This is why the new book by Dr. Roland Topchishvili, The Ethnic History of Samtskhe-Javakheti (2013) has evoked great interest within Georgian scientific circles as it treats the complex ethnic history of Samtskhe-Javakheti, including the impact of Moslem and Turkish culture on Georgian people of the region.

In 2010 Shalva Tabatadze, Doctoral candidate at the TSU Faculty of Humanities, studied the “Factors Determining the Efficiency of Bilingual Education Program in Georgian Reality”. That was just the year that the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia launched multilingual education reforms, under which non-Georgian language schools would have begun reforms on their own curricula and would start multilingual education programs. Shalva Tabatadze decided to address the question of whether non-Georgian language schools were indeed ready to implement strong multilingual education programs.

Scientists from Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (TSU)carried out a study “Indicators of Post-traumatic Growth and Psychological Well-being in Life Stories” in December 2013 under the guidance of TSU Assistant Professor Lili Khechuashvili from the Institute of Individual and Clinical Psychology and the Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences. Kate McLean, Associate Professor of Psychology at Western Washington University, Director of the Memory and Identity Lab, is a partner with the Georgian project.
