Camoes Portuguese Language Center hosted reception in honour of Portuguese National day

On June 3rd 2014 TSU Camoes Portuguese Language Center hosted reception in honour of Portuguese National day. The event was held at the TSU Camoes Portuguese Language Center’s office at TSU building II room 203. Amongst guests were the Portuguese Ambassador to Ankara H.E Jorge Cabral, the honorary consul of Portugal to Georgia Kakha Sharabidze, Rector of TSU Professor Vladimer Papava, Vice-rector Marine Chitashvili, representatives of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, representative of Brazilian embassy in Georgia, deans of different TSU faculties and other guests including TSU foreign relations department staff and TSU students.

The reception was hosted by the director of TSU Camoes center Vera Peixoto and the Head of the Department of Foreign Relations Tea Gergedava who opened the event. Speech was given by the Rector prof. Vladimer Papava, who underlined his full support for the TSU Camoes Portuguese Language Center and expressed his desire for continuing cooperation with the Camoes Institute for broadening the accessibility of Portuguese language among TSU students. In his speech, Ambassador Jorge Cabral provided information about Portugal and Portuguese language which is spoken by over 250 million people in 9 countries around the world and expressed his support for TSU Camoes Portuguese Language Centre.

The director of TSU Camoes Portuguese Center Vera Peixoto gave a presentation which covered the activities that were carried out by TSU Camoes Portuguese Language Center since its opening in August 2013.   Future plans were also discussed during the presentation which includes opening a library and providing Portuguese Language as a credited subject for the TSU students from the next academic year. Further on, the topic of student exchange programs were brought up, in which Vera Peixoto named the Universities that the Camoes Institute cooperates with, that gives the opportunity to the students to study in Portugal. Finally, the floor was given to Guranda Pachulia, a representative of Brazilian Embassy in Georgia, who is the first and so far the only Student from Georgia who has received the Camoes Institute scholarship to Study in Portugal.

The event included an exhibition of Portuguese photographer Ana Faro, who’s six photos were exhibited at the TSU Camoes Portuguese Language Center’s office.

It is important to mention that on June 3rd the consulate of Portugal to Georgia was officially opened in Tbilisi. The Honorary Consul of Portugal to Georgia H.E Kakha Sharabidze attended the event at TSU and expressed his will to cooperate with the Center.
