Celebrations of the Portuguese Language Day 2016

In May the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP) celebrates the International Day of the Portuguese Language. Georgia obtained the status of Associate Observer of the CPLP in 2014, and this year the CPLP also commemorates its 20th Anniversary. For all of these reasons, the TSU CAMÕES – Portuguese Language Center at Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University is organizing a week-long program (2nd through 8th May) with cultural activities ranging from conferences to film screenings and concerts

Tuesday 3rd May
18:30 – Screening of “Aniki Bóbó” (Manoel de Oliveira, 1942) | TSU Building I, room 217
 
Wednesday 4th May
18:00 – “History of Fado” sung conference by Cátia Alhandra and José Alegre (Fad’Nu) | Portuguese Language Centre – TSU Building II, room 203
20:30 Portuguese Night | Bar – Event Centre Zoestan
 
Thursday 5th May
17:30 – Portuguese Language Day | TSU Event Hall
* Opening Speeches by the TSU Acting Rector, the Brazilian Ambassador and the Portuguese Honorary Consul in Georgia
* Fado Concert – by Fad’Nu
* Portuguese Wine Tasting introduction by Frank Anthony Miller; sponsored by the Portuguese Honorary Consul in Georgia
* Official Reception with dignitaries from the Georgian Ministries of Culture, Education and Foreign Affairs, as well as representatives of various Embassies

Friday 6th May  
“Museums and Cultural Heritage from two European frontiers: Georgia and Portugal” presentation by Luís Raposo (Portuguese National Museum of Archaeology) | National Museum of Georgia Auditorium

Saturday 7th May
14:00 – "The influences of Tupi and African languages on Brazilian Portuguese" conference by Rafael Silveira (University of Jena, Germany) | Portuguese Language Centre – TSU Building II, room 203
