Hungarian Language and Culture Learning Center to Open at TSU

Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (TSU) and Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary signed a Memorandum of Cooperation on July 12, on the sidelines of the Batumi International Conference “Georgia’s European Way.” The Memorandum was signed by TSU Rector George Sharvashidze and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary, Péter Szijjártó.

Rector George Sharvashidze explained that there are a lot of good examples and a huge potential of cooperation between the two countries in the sphere of higher education. “I hope that many young people will show interest towards the Hungarian Language and Culture Learning Center. About 100 young people from Georgia are fully financed by the Hungarian state annually. Our University has very good partner relations with the oldest Hungarian university ELTE. We hope that the Center for Kartvelian Studies will be opened at ELTE this year,” Rector Sharvashidze said.

Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary, Péter Szijjártó said that deepening relations in the sphere of education and culture is the main prerequisite for cooperation between the two countries. “We will finance a Hungarian language specialist who will work at the newly established Center at TSU; moreover, we stand ready to further grant scholarships to Georgian citizens annually to help them continue their studies at various Hungarian universities,” the Hungarian Minister noted.
