Permanent Conference of Rectors at TSU

The second meeting of the Permanent Conference of Rectors was held at Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University on December 6 with the participation of representatives of member and non-member private universities.

Rector of TSU, George Sharvashidze; Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport, Nunu Mitskevich; Deputy Minister of Defense, Rati Bregadze; Director of Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation, Zviad Gabisonia, Head of Education Management Information System, Dimitri Beradze; Head of International Education Center, Nino Chelidze, representatives of National Assessment and Examinations Center, as well as rectors of higher educational institutions of Georgia attended the event.

The Deputy Ministers provided thematic presentations and spoke about entry exams and examination disciplines for 2020/2021.

Rector George Sharvashidze said that “the conference made a decision to establish a thematic quality group with the aim to create a platform for discussing the issues of quality assurance.”

Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport, Nunu Mitskevich noted that “the agenda of the Permanent Conference of Rectors included a working model of the 2020 entry exams. The meeting was held in a working mode with the focus on natural sciences.”

The Permanent Conference of Rectors was founded in July 2019 and it shares the fundamental principles of the Magna Charta of the European Universities (Magna Charta Universitatum), such as ensuring academic freedom, autonomy for universities, sharing European and national humanist traditions, integration of teaching and research, etc.

Such associations of rectors already exist in many European countries.
