TSU Moves to Online Learning

The International School of Economics at TSU (ISET) offers its 350 students an international model of online learning, which is based on modern technologies and involves the use of synchronous and asynchronous elements of electronic learning (zoom, smartboard and webinar). The lectures are interactive and students have an opportunity to ask questions and participate in the discussions. The online platform allows users to live stream lectures, and smart boards represent interactive whiteboards, allowing teachers to show educational materials to students.
Rector of Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University, George Sharvashidze and Head of International School of Economics, Tamar Sulukhia familiarized themselves with the launch of the e-learning process. The first online lecture for BA students was delivered by Professor of Columbia University, Muhammad Asali.
Rector Sharvashidze said that all faculties of Tbilisi State University have started moving to e-learning. “Starting from March 23, we will offer different packages to our students based on disciplines. Online lectures and educational materials will be available to all students,” he said, adding that the process of uploading materials is still underway.
Tamar Sulukhia, head of ISET, said that students will have access to all subjects included in the curricula during this semester. “Students will have an opportunity to get involved in the academic process without leaving home. All lectures will be held online; so, students will have to undergo registration, log into the system and attend a lecture. What is most important, it is webinar software tool providing students with interactive opportunities,” she noted.
Upon the decision of the Interagency Coordination Council under the Prime Minister of Georgia, on-campus studies will be resumed from the 1st of April, 2020 as the novel coronavirus outbreak continues to spread. Until then, based on the readiness of faculties and departments, from March 23, Tbilisi State University will carry out individual piloting of distance learning elements. TSU Junior has already started to work remotely.
