Presentation of Anniversary Postage Stamp at TSU

Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (TSU) hosted a presentation of TSU’s 100th anniversary postage stamp on December 28. Rector George Sharvashidze, Director General of Georgian Post, Levan Chikvaidze, professors, students and invited guests attended the event.

“Georgian Post has gifted us an anniversary postage stamp to commemorate 100 years of TSU. The postage stamp will be put into circulation in December,” Rector George Sharvashidze said.

TSU’s excellent students Tamar Lashkhi and Giorgi Tordua, Rector George Sharvashidze, Director General of Georgian Post, Levan Chikvaidze, TSU alumni, famous scientists Zaal Kokaia and Davit Lortkipanidze put their seals on the anniversary stamps.

“I am glad to have an opportunity to participate in celebrating this important date. We have issued an anniversary stamp depicting the TSU building. This stamp will help us present this important monument to the rest of the world,” Levan Chikvaidze said.

The anniversary postage stamp has been designed by Nita Gongadze; it depicts TSU building and its coat of arms (author Dimitri Shevardnadze). The photo was taken by Dimitri Ermakov at the beginning of the 20th century.

The presentation was held as part of events marking TSU’s 100th anniversary and it was organized by Georgian University Society. The Society was restored on December 15, 2017 to support the development of the University. It unites TSU alumni and its supporters.
