TSU, Sakpatenti Sign Memorandum of Cooperation
The Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (TSU) and the National Intellectual Property Center (Sakpatenti) signed a Memorandum of Cooperation. The memorandum was signed by TSU Rector, Academician Vladimer Papava and Chairman of Sakpatenti, Nikoloz Gogilidze.
TSU Rector Vladimer Papava said: “The relationship between TSU and Sakpatenti has reached its logical end. By this memorandum we are expanding the cooperation, which will have mutual benefits.”
“The memorandum is mutually beneficial. Sakpatenti’s potential will help the university in the part of scientific research. In its turn, Sakpatenti deems it important to have professional staff in the sphere of intellectual property protection. And the university is the best smithy for such staff. Our cooperation will be the best opportunity for the development of this branch,” Chairman of Sakpatenti, Nikoloz Gogilidze said.
The purpose of this memorandum is to plan and implement joint programs aimed at intellectual property protection and effective management, encouragement and development of innovative activities. For the purposes of the memorandum, the parties take into account the huge influence of technologies and innovations on the growth and development of competitiveness in the countries, increasing role of the universities in creation and introduction of new technologies, establishment of innovative Start-Up companies.
The parties agree to prepare and enact the legal framework for the purpose of encouraging invention activities and promoting commercialization of its results; to assist the university’s research units and laboratories in conducting research on patent information and if needed, to develop proposals on including a selective course on intellectual property protection in relevant education program/programs.
TSU and Sakpatenti commit themselves to organize joint seminars, conferences, symposiums dedicated to the problems of innovative development and intellectual property protection; to develop and implement measures on setting up the Center for Technology Transfer at the university; to select a group of ten persons from the university students and alumni with the purpose of preparing highly skilled experts in patent issues; to issue joint scientific and other publications with the purpose of raising public awareness.
