COMET International Collaboration Workshop at TSU
COMET International Collaboration Workshop was opened at the Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (TSU) on September 22. TSU Deputy Rector, Merab Eliashvili, as well as Georgian and foreign scientists attended the event.
TSU Deputy Rector Merab Eliashvili said: “The COMET International Collaboration Workshop started its work at TSU. COMET collaboration studies the fundamental issues of modern elementary particle physics and the origin of early universe. The participation of Georgian physicists in this project is extremely important, because it expands geography of our activities. COMET collaboration mostly involves the Far East countries, including Japan, China, etc. However, some representatives from France, England and Russia are also involved. The project offers huge perspectives to those young scholars, who will be involved in its implementation.”
The preparatory works for conducting the experiment at the Japan Proton Accelerator Research Complex in 2016 will be discussed during the event. The meeting is utterly important as it will focus on one of the fundamental problems of physics – charged lepton flavor violation. It promotes the development of electronics. The results of COMET experiment should give answers to all unanswered questions existing in elementary particle physics, particularly, whether there is physics beyond the standard model, i.e. “new physics.” Georgian and foreign students (MA and PhD students) will also take part in the workshop along with the representatives from 15 countries participating in the experiment (among them Japan, China, England, Czech Republic, Australia, Russia, Belarus). About 50 international scientific research institutions are involved in the COMET experiment.
The workshop will last until September 26.
