Science Forum and Exhibition at TSU
An annual science forum dedicated to Ivane Javakhishvili’s memory was opened at the Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University. The best research papers selected by the faculty commissions were read out at the forum by the authors – TSU professors, emeriti and research fellows. One work was presented from each faculty. The authors of papers presented at the forum received certificates and pecuniary awards at GEL 5 000.
TSU Rector, Academician Vladimer Papava, Deputy Minister of Education and Science Giorgi Sharvashidze, TSU professors, students, representatives of the National Academy of Sciences, governmental and legislative structures as well as invited guests attended the event.
TSU Rector Vladimer Papava said that “Ivane Javakhishvili is a distinguished person in Georgian history; he is a public figure, great Georgian scientist, founder of the Tbilisi State University. The university made a decision to hold a science forum annually during which professors and students from various faculties will make reports and acquaint the audience with scientific achievements of previous year.”
“I am so glad that a science conference was held at the Tbilisi State University. For the first time today a lot of research grants were provided to scientists for their huge contribution. This is a good encouragement for young scientists to work in the directions developed at TSU,” Deputy Minister of Education and Science Giorgi Sharvashidze said.
In parallel with the forum, TSU Museum hosted an exhibition “The Only Knight” dedicated to Ivane Javakhishvili. Director of TSU Museum Maia Gurabanidze said that “the exposition involves memorabilia and documents stored at TSU Museum and National Archives of Georgia, Ivane Javakhishvili’s manuscripts unknown to wide public, ornaments created by him as well as photo and documentary materials depicting the university’s foundation and chronologically reflecting the remarkable facts from the university’s history.”
“TSU Museum and National Archives of Georgia traditionally cooperate with each other. This exhibition is the result of this cooperation. It is planned to create a website in future, which will accumulate all the documents related to Ivane Javakhishvili’s name,” Director General of the National Archives of Georgia, Teona Iashvili said.
The famous Georgian scientist and public figure, the founder of the first Georgian university, Ivane Javakhishvili was born on April 23, 1876. In 2014 the Georgian society marks his 138th birth anniversary.
