International Conference “Akaki Tsereteli and His Epoch”

Rector of the Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (TSU), Academician Vladimer Papava, Minister of Education and Science Tamar Sanikidze, TSU professors, students and invited guests attended the opening of an international conference “Akaki Tsereteli and His Epoch” at TSU on June 22.

“The university marks the 175th birth anniversary and th 100th death anniversary of a great Georgian poet and public figure, Akaki Tsereteli. This is a series of events. A conference has been launched today; an exhibition has also been opened. In addition, special books were published in connection with this solemn date and their presentations will be held. Student conference will be held tomorrow and young people will read Akaki Tsereteli’s poems,” TSU Rector Vladimer Papava said.

“Akaki Tsereteli, his compatriots and supporters were those persons, who made a significant contribution to the history and development of Georgia. The nation is really happy when it can be proud of such poets, writers, publicists, public figures, leaders of the national liberation movement, like Akaki Tsereteli and his compatriots were. Today we viewed a very interesting photo gallery depicting the life and work of Akaki Tsereteli. This is a very important anniversary, especially for education system, due to the contribution made by Akaki Tsereteli to Georgia,” Georgian Education Minister Tamar Sanikidze said.

The 175th birth anniversary and 100th death anniversary of a great Georgian poet and public figure, Akaki Tsereteli is marked in 2015. The Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University will mark this date with a week dedicated to Akaki Tsereteli.

An exhibition dedicated to Akaki Tsereteli and presentation of books will be held on the sideline of the international scientific and student conference; guests from Ukraine, Latvia and other countries, as well as participants from Georgian universities will attend the event.

Before opening the conference the participants laid wreaths before the bust of Akaki Tsereteli in the university courtyard. Various student events will be held during the week dedicated to Akaki Tsereteli.
