English Language International Summer School at TSU

An English language international summer school ‘Good Governance’ was opened at the Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (TSU).

TSU Rector, Academician Vladimer Papava, Tbilisi Mayor Davit Narmania, MP Tinatin Khidasheli, Deputy Minister of Education and Science Giorgi Sharvashidze, First Deputy Minister of Justice Aleksandre Baramidze, other officials and representatives of non-governmental organizations attended the event.

TSU Rector Vladimer Papava said: “The key goal of the project is to establish good governance in South Caucasus, which will be transparent and people-oriented. Similar summer school is a significant addition to academic schools that helps students broaden their visions.”

“A good and useful job has been done by implementing this project, especially as Georgia needs good governance right now. Summer schools along with winter schools promote youth education and their engagement in civic processes,” Deputy Minister of Education and Science Giorgi Sharvashidze said.

“As TSU Professor and Tbilisi Mayor, I clearly see the necessity and urgency of such schools. Listeners of this summer school will get additional information about modern governance methods, acquire more experience, necessary skills to further use them in practice,” Tbilisi Mayor Davit Narmania said.

The five-day event has been co-organized by the Tbilisi State University, the University of Tartu (Estonia) and the Institute for Development of Freedom of Information (Georgia); it is being held with the financial support of the Estonian Foreign Ministry.    

Georgian and foreign professors, as well as representatives of the Georgian Government and the European Union will be actively involved in the work of the summer school.

40 local (including students from ethnic minority groups) and foreign students are involved in the project.
