TSU Futsal Team Achieves Another Success in European Competition
TSU Futsal Team successfully passed through the first qualifying round of the UEFA Futsal Cup and gained the right to play in the main round. For the first time in Georgia’s history, Georgian team will play in the main round.
Georgian Futsal players were met at the Tbilisi International Airport by Acting Rector of TSU, Darejan Tvaltvadze, students and representatives of the TSU administration.
“We have played very difficult matches. Our guys spared no efforts to achieve this success. In a month and a half we will have to play in the elite round and we will traditionally undergo serious preparations for it to continue our successful start,” Avtandil Asatiani, chief coach of TSU Futsal Team, said.
“We are satisfied with the results achieved in Finland. We are glad that we have defeated all our rivals and moved to the next round. We will try to achieve success in Macedonia too,” Davit Bobokhidze, captain of TSU Futsal Team, said.
Head of the TSU Department of Culture and Sport, Irakli Kharjavanidze described the qualifying round held in Finland as successful. “We have competed in the selection round quite well. This is the first Georgian team that completed the qualifying round with 9 points. It was a successful debut. I want to thank our players, the university administration and all those persons, who were involved in this process. We have the second round ahead which will be held in Macedonia and we should get prepared for it seriously,” Irakli Kharjavanidze said.
TSU joined the tournament from the preliminary round held in Finland on August 16-21. 32 teams participating in the qualifying round were drawn into 8 groups. A team had to take the first place to leave the group.
Georgia appeared in Group F along with the teams from Finland (Sievi), Scotland (Wattcell) and Malta (Valletta). TSU team defeated Scottish Wattcell 12:4 as well as Valletta 6:0. During a decisive march of the first qualifying round TSU Futsal Team defeated Finnish Sievi 5:4. With three victories in Group F, TSU took the first place and moved to the main round.
The main round will take place in Macedonia on October 11-16, where along with the host team, Zelezarec Skopje, Azerbaijan’s champion team Araz Naxçivan, Kosovo’s Feniks and Georgia’s TSU Team will compete for qualifying for the next, elite round.
