Acting Rector of TSU Meets Futsal Team

Acting Rector of Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (TSU), Darejan Tvaltvadze met with members of TSU Futsal team on September 7 and awarded certificates of appreciation to them. TSU students, professors, administrative staff attended the event.

TSU Futsal Team successfully passed through the first qualifying round of the UEFA Futsal Cup and gained the right to play in the main round.  For the first time in Georgia’s history, Georgian team will play in the main round. 

“We are extremely happy about your success that is the first step towards a great victory. I hope that we will mark your future achievements more extensively. You serve as an example of better and pleasant life for others. I congratulate the university on this victory,” Darejan Tvaltvadze addressed the members of TSU Futsal team.

Head of the TSU Department of Culture and Sport, Irakli Kharjavanidze said that “it is impossible to achieve such success without the support of TSU administration. There is a difficult road ahead. We will spare no efforts to find ourselves among 16 best European teams.”

Coach of TSU Futsal team, Avtandil Asatiani thanked everyone for assistance and noted that the team has already started preparations for a new season.

TSU joined the tournament from the preliminary round held in Finland on August 16-21. 32 teams participating in the qualifying round were drawn into 8 groups. A team had to take the first place to leave the group.        

Georgia appeared in Group F along with the teams from Finland (Sievi), Scotland (Wattcell) and Malta (Valletta). TSU team defeated Scottish Wattcell 12:4 as well as Valletta 6:0. During a decisive march of the first qualifying round TSU Futsal Team defeated Finnish Sievi 5:4. With three victories in Group F, TSU took the first place and moved to the main round.

The main round will take place in Macedonia on October 11-16, where along with the host team,   Zelezarec Skopje, Azerbaijan’s champion team Araz Naxçivan, Kosovo’s Feniks and Georgia’s TSU Team will compete for qualifying for the next, elite round.
