NBG President Visits TSU

President of the National Bank of Georgia (NBG), Giorgi Kadagidze delivered a lecture “Challenges and Potential of Georgian Economy” at the Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (TSU) on March 20. TSU Rector, Academician Vladimer Papava, students and professors attended the event.

TSU Rector Vladimer Papava said: “The President of the National Bank of Georgia briefed the students on the problems facing Georgia’s economy, as well as on the National Bank’s monetary policy. The university is ready to promote holding of similar meetings periodically, as students’ interest is extremely high. The lecture proved very interesting. The NBG President explained quite difficult problems in a very simple language. The questions asked by students were also very interesting.”

“Relations with students, young people are an integral part of our daily activities. Along with theoretical knowledge, sharing of practical experience is essential for their professionalism,” NBG President, Giorgi Kadagidze said.

During the meeting the NBG President spoke about the dynamics of recent depreciation of the national currency Lari, its reasons, NBG’s monetary policy, possible solutions, etc. He brought some examples from international practice and focused on the positive and negative sides as well as on the risks of the NBG’s interventions in the Georgian currency market.

The meeting ended with a discussion. President of the National Bank of Georgia, Giorgi Kadagidze answered students’ questions.
