Academician Vasil Chantladze’s 110th Birth Anniversary at TSU

TSU Rector, Academician Vladimer Papava; Georgian Finance Minister, Prof. Nodar Khaduri; Tbilisi Mayor, Prof. Davit Narmania; Chairman of the Partnership Fund and Head of the Finance and Banking Department at TSU, Irakli Kovzanadze attended a solemn event at the Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (TSU) on May 22. The event was dedicated to Academician Vasil Chantladze’s 110th birth anniversary. 

“The anniversary of a great Georgian economist, prominent scientist and financier, Vasil Chantladze is being marked at the university. His works have been recognized by both Georgian and foreign research communities. His monographs were even translated in Chinese. The traditions established by him are still alive,” TSU Rector Vladimer Papava said.

“I am glad to have known Vasil Chantladze personally. He brought up many generations and created a lot of works on the theory of finance. He even included Shota Rustaveli’s economic views in one of his monographs,” Georgian Finance Minister, Nodar Khaduri said.

Chairman of the Partnership Fund and Head of the Finance and Banking Department at TSU, Irakli Kovzanadze said: “Vasil Chantladze is one of the founders of Georgian financial science. He brought up over 40 postgraduates, PhD students, candidates of science. His contribution to the development of this direction is enormous.” 

“Vasil Chantladze belongs to the category of distinguished scientists. He laid the foundation for the country’s correct economic road which turned into Georgia’s economic model,” President of the Georgian Academy of Sciences, Giorgi Kvesitadze said.

Famous scientists and public figures, TSU professors and students also participated in the event.

Academician Vasil Chantladze has made a huge contribution to scientific development of financial theories. During 20 years he led the TSU Department for Finances and Credit. He published over 205 scientific papers, most of which were dedicated to finances, history of finances, history of economic ideas, economic terminology, etc. Chantladze’s works have been published in Georgian, Russian, Chinese and English languages.

The solemn events started with a ceremony of laying wreaths at the graves of Academician Vasil Chantladze and Academician Paata Gugushvili.      
The event was organized by the TSU Faculty of Economics and Business and the Finance and Banking Department.
