TSU, President’s Administration Sign Memorandum of Cooperation

Georgian President Giorgi Margvelashvili and Rector of the Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (TSU), Academician Vladimer Papava signed a Memorandum of Cooperation. Students of the TSU Faculty of Humanities and academic staff attended the signing ceremony.

The key goal of the memorandum is to plan and implement joint measures aimed at improving the quality of higher education, promoting comprehensive education and encouraging new generation, establishing civil society and strengthening national values. According to the memorandum, the Tbilisi State University and the President’s Administration will jointly implement scholarship programs, short-term educational projects, etc.  

During the meeting with students and academic staff, President Margvelashvili informed them about introduction of a scholarship named after Georgia’s first President, Zviad Gamsakhurdia. The Zviad Gamsakhurdia Scholarship will be granted to one successful student from each three steps - BA, MA and PhD programs. The first scholarship will be granted during the current academic year.

During the meeting President Margvelashvili spoke about the involvement of TSU and its students in the country’s life. “I fully realize the role, which the university plays in our public life. When looking at our future goals, the university, the country’s intellectual potential is the very foundation on which our future should be built. Introduction of the Zviad Gamsakhurdia Scholarship is very important, because Zviad Gamsakhurdia was a statesman, scientist, who worked in the sphere, which largely promoted the determination of our identity,” President Margvelashvili said.

TSU Rector, Academician Vladimer Papava spoke about the importance of President Margvelashvili’s visit to the university and focused on the signed memorandum. He said that “the memorandum concluded between TSU and the President’s Administration will open up new opportunities to TSU students, as well as help them acquire new skills and develop professionally.”
