Exhibition of Mikhako Tsereteli’s Manuscripts

15 volumes of manuscripts by Mikhako Tsereteli, a Georgian scientist, politician and public figure, were discovered at the TSU National Scientific Library. The manuscripts, most of which are unknown to researchers and wider society, were presented during a press conference held at the National Scientific Library on July 29.

During the press conference Director of the National Scientific Library, Irakli Garibashvili spoke about the importance of newly discovered manuscripts, protection and maintenance of this treasure. Deputy Minister of Education and Science, Giorgi Shervashidze, Deputy Rector of TSU, Marine Chitashvili, foreign diplomats, Mikhako Tsereteli’s descendants and scientists attended the event.

“The library does not have to research the discovered manuscripts from academic point of view; therefore, Levan Gordeziani, who leads this direction at the Tbilisi State University, his staff and students should present a project, according to which the research of these documents will be planned and implemented. In 2018 the university will celebrate its 100th anniversary. We plan to publish a series ‘University Classics’ by that period and this series will definitely include relevant parts from these manuscripts,” the Deputy Rector of TSU said.

Mikhako Tsereteli was the first Georgian Orientalist, founder of sociological sciences in Georgia, Rustvelologist, immigrant scientist, who wrote his works in English, German, French and Italian. Among the manuscripts discovered at the National Scientific Library there are his four unpublished scientific works and the German version of his famous publication ‘Sumerian and Georgian.’
