Center for the Study of Disability Issues Opens at TSU

A presentation of the Center for the Study of Disability Issues was held at the Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (TSU) on December 12. TSU Rector, Academician Vladimer Papava, Czech Ambassador to Georgia, Tomáš Pernický, students and professors attended the event.

TSU Rector, Vladimer Papava said that “today the issue related to the involvement of persons with disabilities in public life is extremely pressing throughout the world. Naturally, this is the problem, which is equally important for our university. Therefore, we have set up a relevant research center, which has obtained a serious grant and starts functioning now.”

“Last year we launched cooperation with the Tbilisi State University over the issue related to persons with disabilities, especially those with psychical problems. Such support is very important, because persons with disabilities are those people, who live beside us. We should do our best to promote integration of these people in public that is frequently quite difficult even for an ordinary person, as well as to help them live not only beside us, but together with us,” Czech Ambassador to Georgia, Tomáš Pernický said.

The first project “Employment of Persons with Disabilities in Georgia. Lessons from the Experience of Poland, Hungary and Czech Republic” planned to be implemented by the center was unveiled during the presentation.
