TSU Rector Visits Czech Republic
Rector of the Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (TSU), Academician Vladimer Papava paid a two-day visit to the Czech Republic this week to discuss the issues of boosting cooperation between TSU and the Charles University in Prague. During meetings with their Czech counterparts Rector Papava and Head of the TSU Administration, Davit Chomakhidze spoke about resumption of cooperation agreements.
On the basis of the memorandum signed in 2008, a lot of Georgian students underwent their studies in the Czech Republic in frames of exchange programs, while Czech professors delivered lectures at TSU. Rector Vladimer Papava said at the meeting with Vice Rector of the Charles University for International Affairs, Jan Škrha that it is essential to expand cooperation through exchanging students and professors, implementing research projects, organizing joint summer schools and ensuring student mobility in frames of Erasmus Mundus and Erasmus+ programs. He also said that the doors of European education system have opened for Georgia as a result of signing the Association Agreement with EU. Thus, TSU is now facing a new challenge – to establish European standards of education. Vice Rector Jan Škrha expressed his desire to invite Georgian PhD students to undergo their postdoctoral studies at the Charles University.
An agreement was reached during the meeting with the representatives of the Faculty of Social Sciences of the Charles University to expand cooperation with the TSU Faculties of Social and Political Sciences and Economics and Business. The parties agreed to start working over organizing a joint summer school at TSU next year.
Charles University is the oldest and largest university in the Czech Republic. It was founded in the 14th century. Today 51 thousand students are undergoing their studies at 17 faculties of Charles University.
By the end of the visit TSU Rector visited J.A. Comenius National Pedagogical Museum and Library. Markéta Pánková, Director of the National Pedagogical Museum and Library, and Vladimer Papava discussed the issue of future cooperation.
Georgian Ambassador to the Czech Republic, Zaal Gogsadze also participated in the meetings.
