Presentation of the Book “Noe Ramishvili”
A presentation of the book about Noe Ramishvili, the president of the first government of the Democratic Republic of Georgia, was held at the National Archives of the Ministry of Justice of Georgia on May 30. The book “Noe Ramishvili” was released by Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University in partnership with the National Archives. It contains a lot of new materials which were previously available only to academic circles. Its part is stored in the Central Historical Archive of the National Archives, and the other part is stored in the collections of Mamia and Cristine Berishvili and Michel Ramishvili at the TSU Library, the National Parliamentary Library of Georgia and Shalva Amiranashvili Art Museum.
Rector of Tbilisi State University, Giorgi Sharvashidze, Justice Minister Tea Tsulukiani, representatives of the legislative and executive authorities, foreign diplomats accredited in Georgia and academic circles attended the event. The representatives of Leuville’s Georgian Diaspora, Noe Ramishvili’s grandson, Michel Ramishvili and Mamia Berishvili’s son, Tieri Berishvili, who were actively involved in the process of book preparation, also attended the presentation.
Rector Giorgi Sharvashidze said that the book, which was published through the cooperation between TSU and the Justice Ministry, describes the challenges faced by Georgia. “All these developments took place in our recent past; we should know what particular threats we may face and this book provides answers to a lot of questions. The leaders of the First Democratic Republic gave an impetus that made it possible to establish European-style democracy in Georgia. It was a very successful project, it was a very successful democracy, it was independence that proved successful,” Giorgi Sharvashidze said.
The book contains photos, documents, letters of Noe Ramishvili, the president of the first government of the Democratic Republic of Georgia, who simultaneously served as the interior, education and defense minister, as well as his orders issued during his term in office, his legislative initiatives and speeches made at the sessions of the Constituent Assembly, the Government and the party.
The book presentation was followed by a presentation of the last archive of the Leuville Estate. This archive was brought to Georgia several weeks ago. Its return to Georgia is symbolically associated with the 100th anniversary of the First Republic.
