Presentation of the Book “Military School” by Alexander Chkheidze and Exhibition of Rare Books at TSU Emigration Museum

An exhibition of rare books released by Georgian military leaders of the period of the first Democratic Republic of Georgia in emigration, as well as a presentation of the book “Military School” by Alexander Chkheidze was held at the TSU Georgian Emigration Museum on May 18. The copies of photo and documentary archival materials stored at the National Archives of Georgia were exhibited.

The exhibition was held as part of events marking the International Museum Day and the 100th anniversary of the first Democratic Republic of Georgia.

Rector of TSU, Giorgi Sharvashidze, Deputy Chief of the General Staff of Georgian Armed Forces, Brigade General Shalva Jabakhidze, cadets, militaries, TSU students and professors attended the event.

Rector Giorgi Sharvashidze said that the book contained very interesting recollections. “Alexander Chkheidze was a famous military and a very interesting person. Our cadets struggled on the Tabakhmela front under his leadership. Generally, the format of cooperation that we have with the Defense Ministry is very interesting,” he noted.
 
Deputy Chief of the General Staff of Georgian Armed Forces, Brigade General Shalva Jabakhidze thanked the Tbilisi State University for cooperation. “The today’s event is very important as it reflects the spiritual condition of the militaries and the entire society of the Democratic Republic of Georgia in 1918-1921. Although, Georgia’s independence has only a three-year history, it left a huge history for our present generations,” Shalva Jabakhidze said.

The book “Military School” contains Alexander Chkheidze’s memories released by him in the journal Mkhedari during emigration. Historian Lela Saralidze prepared the material printed in the journal for publishing as a book. The book was edited by historian Archil Chachkhiani and it was published by the Defense Ministry.
