Georgian Language Course at the University of Tartu

The University of Tartu (Estonia) will be among those universities, where students are taught the Georgian language by professors from the Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (TSU). The course Georgian for Beginners will be delivered by TSU Associate Professor Giuli Shabashvili during a semester.
Students of the University of Tartu, as well as other Estonian universities will have an opportunity to learn the Georgian language free of charge at one of the oldest and prestigious European universities along with English, German, other Romance, Slavic, Scandinavian, Baltic languages. Registration of those willing to learn the Georgian language is already underway at the College of Foreign Languages and Cultures of the University of Tartu. The lectures will begin in the second week of February. Along with the Georgian language course, Estonian students will familiarize themselves with Georgian history and culture.
Besides Tartu, TSU professors also teach the Georgian language at some partner universities, among them Leiden University (Holland); University of Bremen (Germany); University of Vilnius (Lithuania). In 2009 similar project was implemented at Sangmyung University (Seoul, South Korea). One of the Chinese universities also expressed desire to offer Georgian language courses to its students and staff. The issue of Georgian language instruction at the Chinese university will be solved during the visit of the Chinese delegation to TSU in spring.
