TSU, National Tourism Administration Sign Memorandum of Cooperation

Rector of the Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (TSU), Academician Vladimer Papava and Head of the Georgian National Tourism Administration, Giorgi Sigua signed a Memorandum of Cooperation on July 10.

TSU Rector Vladimer Papava said that “there is the School of Tourism at TSU and a lot of young people show interest in undergoing their studies in this direction. Signing of the agreement with the National Tourism Administration is extremely important for our university. The Memorandum enables our students and professors to be actively involved in the state programs, as well as to implement joint projects. Moreover, the Memorandum provides good employment opportunities to our students in this sphere. The National Tourism Administration donated serious literature – 250 books, which will further enrich our library.”

“We realize the university’s huge and important role in cultural and economic development of our country. TSU is the main Alma meter and we find it very important to have close contacts with the university. We are implementing a number of projects, where the university’s intellectual, human resources and material-technical base are needed. Today we handed over a great part of our library to the TSU School of Tourism. These books were published by the World Tourism Organization; these are basically textbooks, which practically have no analogs in Georgia. We also offered TSU 80 new vacancies for mobile guide positions and the university will be our partner in this affair too. We will further continue close cooperation with TSU in frames of various programs,” Head of the Georgian National Tourism Administration Giorgi Sigua said.

According to the Memorandum, the parties will cooperate to promote tourism development in the country. Working meetings, workshops, conferences and symposiums will be held for this purpose. To promote the implementation of educational projects, the National Tourism Administration will make a recommendation for educational and research projects developed by TSU to raise funds from local and foreign donor organizations. The National Tourism Administration will also help TSU students undergo internships in the administration or other relevant structures as well as provide information on international tourism exhibitions and conferences.
